I’d really love to hear more about how the sun cleans and sanitizes their microgreen trays. This is a huge bottleneck for our farm, and the concept of the sun doing the work is fascinating!
I love this guy. The excitement is palpable.
I think many times the story is missing how many government/state fund/promotion get an enterprise in agriculture. I would be good to hear sometimes about this.
Great video! There’s so much useful information that I hope to incorporate into our farm. Keep them coming.
I live just a few miles from Bear Creek Organic Farm, and this is the first I have heard of it.
It’s nice that farming is going on up here again. Regulations killed a lot of the family farms up here, and definitely killed our family orchards.
There isn’t much impact on me directly, as they are selling in markets that most of the true locals can’t afford. However, it doesn’t make me any less proud of what Bear Creek Organic Farm is doing. I hope they will be happy here, and continue to be successful.
Oh wow, that’s crazy. What were some of the particular regulations that did that?
Curtis: There shouldn’t be anyone out there complaining about not getting their money’s worth out of a subscription to your “From the Field”..My gosh, I was overly impressed with your video of Vanessa’s microgreen operation, then you went and visited Steven in San Diego, when I thought WOW!, you’ll never be able to top this! And I just finally finished this video with Brian at Bear Creek!!! You’re ‘Crushin’ It” dude!!! I was a bit skeptical when you decided to stop the weekly vlogs, because of the educational value of them. and you sharing so much information on the ‘nuts & bolts’ of your farming operation…So let me tell you….You haven’t lost a beat, and have actually cranked it up a few notches. It’s just a matter of time before you have as many subscribers at From the Field as you did on You Tube. Thanks for doing this!!!
Thanks a lot for that Jim.
Spectacular information. Brian is so real, no nonsense and smart. Very impressive operation. Thanks Curtis
So much good information and feel like it could be longer and didn’t want it to end. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Awesome session Curtis. Worth the price of admission. Brian Bates is a big reason I started my journey into farming after I stumbled on his interview on the Farmer to Farmer Podcast with the late Chris Blanchard (RIP). I recommend anyone look up that podcast, and others on that site. On the F2F podcast back in 2016, Brian talked about starting up Bear Creek Farm, with no-BS approach and with such enthusiasm and clear thinking on lean, small-scale farming, from a business perspective. It was like a breath of fresh air that cut through the Westcoast permaculture fog I was in at the time. Next step for me at the time was Curtis’s book and then I went down the Youtube rabbit hole and haven’t looked back.
This guy is on it !!!! Appreciation for everyone’s time involved in putting this video together. For anyone searching for success in farming , take note of how Brian is dialed into every aspect of every task . Logistics for the win ❤️
Kind regards
A
This guy is awesome!
Selling all his stuff to small-town midwest is especially impressive. Love the plant sale too. Nursery plants can be very profitable
Thanks Curtis
Does he mention in the video what kind of auger system he uses to plant his tomatoes? Not sure if I missed it or not.
I just posted a video about it in the subject videos. Thanks for asking. I had a tiny video piece showing it that wasn’t part of the original interview, but this one should explain it better. https://fromthefield.farm/soil-auger-that-brian-bates-uses/
wow.!!
Best video so far Curtis, really high value content, please approach some similar farms. Thanks!
More please.
I enjoyed that, as much as it, seemed you did. It’s what we are trying to do, treat it like a business and act professional from the beginning. One foot out of the system and one foot in.
